Please consider the following information when reviewing the job profiles for the trees and timber industry:
- The draft job profiles have been put together following initial consultation and meetings with industry

Initially, over 85 job roles were identified under “Trees and Timber”. Industry representatives have filtered these out so that only job roles that are specifically related to trees and timber have been considered
- Where some job roles were considered to be very similar (e.g. supervisor/foreman), these were amalgamated into just the one heading

If a job was considered to be a more prominent role in another industry (e.g. chief wildlife manager is a predominant role in the game and wildlife industry), this role has been reviewed by the ‘other’ industry then added back into the trees and timber folder. Therefore all job roles considered to have a part to play in the trees and timber industry are included in this section
- Anyone using Job Consulter is welcome to look into other industry folders to see all of the job roles and profiles that Lantra are now circulating for comment
- There are some jobs where more work needs to be done to identify and map the associated skills and knowledge. Some of these may be within one of Lantra’s 17 industries (e.g. forest researcher); others may be in other industrial areas (e.g. archaeologist/heritage manager; timber haulier, civil engineer). In these cases, Lantra will work with the relevant Sector Skills Council for these different industries to use and/or adapt information to suit the needs of the trees and timber industry
- No work has been specifically done for trainer/instructor/assessor roles within the trees and timber industry as it was considered that apart from the subject being taught, the skills required by these job roles would be very similar to those in other industries
- This is a key opportunity for everyone working in the trees and timber industry to identify exactly what jobs there are in the industry and what people holding these job roles actually do.
